Brielle is a textile artist and designer, raised in Antigua, Guatemala. Using texture, she aims to foster presence and curiosity. Her tree canopy, made of hand-dyed fabric originally woven at the Ix & Sons Textile Factory that once occupied this property, is here to stimulate your sense of touch and provide a safe space to get lost. The swings offer room for rest, contemplation, and childlike wonder.
Brielle’s Full ARtist Statement
Brielle spent the first 18 years of her life in Antigua, Guatemala and came to the United States to attend UVA. Her early sensory experiences in Guatemala intertwine with the things she makes today. She considers herself a colorist and texturist who aims to create personal connections between human beings and their environment. Using texture, she aims to foster presence, curiosity, wonder and awareness in the hopes that the viewers will feel inspired to take care of one another and our planet.
The tree foliage and vine inspired installation created for this space is immersive and interactive. It is intended to stimulate the audience's sense of touch and provide a safe space to get lost a little. The foliage of this tree is a reminder of the delicate power of nature, its quiet elegance and loving embrace. The swings throughout the installation offer rest, contemplation and space for childlike wonder.
