Jeff Dobrow

"My pieces revolve around playfulness and juxtaposition of perspective shifts in nature."

Jeff is a visual and technology artist exploring and working within the evolving, fluid relationship between technology, art, and process to produce interactive, immersive, and involving experiences.

On his augmented reality projections, you can engage with crystalline spheres in a mythical expanse of fluid and colorful fog, or influence the choreography of massive elements of nature with your presence and motion.

Jeff Dobrow is a visual & technology artist exploring and working within the evolving, fluid relationship between technology, art and process to produce interactive, immersive and involving experiences.

We’ve come a long way since Colossal Caves, Infocom and Scott Adams, however the lure of technology as a tool to expand our experiences is as strong as ever.

Projection mapping, interactive viewer-driven based installations, room scale VR represent some of the artistic opportunities that current technology allows us to explore. Sharing the experience, finding ways to involve, empower, educate is a paramount component of advancing any art form and one I strive to support through various community engagements.

The Looking Glass Interactive Art Museum at IX Art Park is providing a creative space found on and embracing interactive and immersive art. This experiential medium of large scale collaboration between all mediums both tangibly analog and digital is being explored in various locations around the world as awareness and interest grow. The Looking Glass, into an Enchanted Forest was the premise and inspiration that was given to me. To take a raw space and architect an immersive, visually captivating and engaging artistic experience that would provide a unique perspective of this enchanted forest realm to the spectator/journeyman.

“A massive space, technology....CPU’s, GPU’s, projection, signal infrastructure, depth cameras,....so many parts and pieces must come to life in order to set the stage for the experience to exist. And that speaks nothing of the ‘experience’ itself. Conceived, designed, modeled, programmed and finally given reason in Unity. The process is as much as the art as the result.”

“My pieces revolve around playfulness and juxtaposition of perspective shifts in nature: Engage with crystalline spheres in a mythical expanse of fluid, colorful fog. Influence the choreography of massive elements of nature with your presence and motion. Walk through waterfalls of GPU generated fantasy while staying perfectly dry.”

Authoring animation software to generate Z-80 code began an odd love affair with both technology and pixels. Through a few decades of exploration in programming, circuit design and 3D animation a cohesive theme emerged and continues to guide. Time spent in the commercial advertising world, designing and creative directing for national and global outlets continued to allow exploration in the modern tech and trends of the craft.

With a history rooted in motion design, digital art and programming Jeff previously served as Creative Director of Ringside Creative in Detroit where he founded and developed their motion design group before coming to VA. There he serviced a range of global agencies working on a variety of national TV spots and campaigns. Prior to commercial work his focus was network identity design.
