"I've always wanted to build a tree from wood...Now I'm growing with the tree!"

Sigrid is one of the founders of ARTCHO, an annual community festival in Charlottesville. Salvaged from the remains of another art installation, her mixed media tree trunk has ignited her creative energy. The painted masks sprinkled throughout the trunk are cast from her fellow artists' faces and inspired by how masks give us the ability to transform ourselves and find a new identity.

SIgrid's Full ARtist Statement

Masks give us the ability to become something else, to transform ourselves and find a new identity. Throughout the ages, masks have defined us, defied us and beguiled us. Starting with our ancient ancestors, steeped in ritual and ceremony, they connect us to whence we came.
