United Way Community Table Meal & Discussion

A Community Table meal brings people in our community together to share a meal, a conversation, and build common ground. Getting to know one another can lead to greater awareness and understanding, can begin to build trust, and form new relationships. This will be the third major Community Table the United Way has presented, the first in October 2017 , with 700 attending on the grounds of the Jefferson School, and the second in April 2019 for 125 people as part of the Tom Tom Founders Festival. Both events have been incredibly well received, with attendees asking for more such events.

Participants will gather at tables of 10 to share a family-style meal. Each table will be hosted by a high school student trained through the NewGen peacebuilders program, who will be assisted by an adult mentor with experience hosting at a previous Community Table. Local young people and adults will be invited to attend and will share in table conversations based on questions aimed about experiences and perspectives with our local school systems. Tables will then be encouraged to share out key learnings with the entire event.
